New digital microscope for the Bug Club
Published: 16 June 2009
A portable digital microscope and stand has been donated to the Bug Club by Sonia Copeland Bloom, who is an author of stories about insects.
This will mean that we can look at smaller insects and identify them on field trips. The microscope plugs into a laptop, and the insect can be viewed on the screen. Larger insects can also be seen in detail - for example, these recently pupated Marsh Fritillaries (Euphydryas aurinia) showing their final larval skin:
The company who provided the microscope also supported the Bug Club by providing discount on the microscope. They are Absolute Data Services of 9 Moorland Road, Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire HP1 1NQ. Their website is at http://www.absolute-data-services.co.uk
The Bug Club would like to thank Sonia Copeland Bloom and Absolute Data Services for their generous support.
