SUMMARY:AES & Bug Club: Young Entomologists' Day at Oxford University
LOCATION:Oxford University Museum of Natural History, Parks Road, Oxford, Oxon, OX1 3PW, UK.
DESCRIPTION: To mark our 75th anniversary we are holding a Young Entomologist's Day, hosted by Oxford University at their Museum of Natural History. The day will begin with a keynote talk aimed at young entomologists by an invited guest speaker, followed by presentations by young entomologists aged between 4 and 18 years of age. Each participant will receive a certificate and a Bug Club notebook. Speakers' presentations will be commented on by a panel of judges. Prizes will be awarded in three age categories, starting with age 8 and under. Judging criteria can be found in the Guidelines for presenters (PDF 115K). There will also be tours of the Hope Entomological Collections during the day in the company of the curator, Darren Mann. Provisional timetable * 10.30 - Arrival, settle in * 11.00 - Introduction and welcome (from AES President, Dr Robin Wootton) * 11.15 - Presentation: An invited guest speaker * 11.45 - Children's presentations: Under 9 category * 12.15 - Children's presentations: 10-13 age category * 12.45 - lunch break * 1.45 - Children's presentations: 14-18 age category * 2.15 - Judges' deliberations * 2.30 - Prizes presented to winners * 3.00 - Close Information stands will include The Bug Club, National Insect Week and the Angela Marmont Centre for UK Biodiversity. Tours of the Hope Entomological Collections will be run at suitable times during the day.
