03 March 2016 10:00 - 16:00

Location: St. Luke's Community Centre, 90 Central St, London EC1V 8AJ, UK.

Event description

An invaluable course for anyone looking to develop community activities on climate change, energy-saving and environmental issues.

This course will teach you the skills and knowledge needed to develop the long-term engagement of civil society organisations, groups and individuals in working on climate change, energy issues and low-carbon living.

Local action can take many forms; from work on policy with councils and MPs (developing community managed renewable energy projects) to ongoing work to encourage community organisations to deliver a sustainable future. There are good examples everywhere to learn from and there is an urgent need for effective action.

People attending this course will learn:

  • Starting positive dialogues
  • How community engagement can deliver lasting change
  • Why community engagement on climate change can be problematic.
  • Linking fuel poverty and low carbon living
  • Supporting and working with communities
  • Linking adaptation and flooding with action to minimise climate change
  • Positive aspects of low / zero carbon living
  • Developing your action plan

Who should attend the training?

The course is designed for climate and energy staff, community workers, organisers and activists. It covers approaches to work with both enthusiastic and less engaged communities.
