Congratulations Dr Burton

Published: 19 January 2020

Congratulations to Victoria Burton, AES trustee and membership administrator, on the award of her PhD. Victoria's PhD research focused on soil and litter biodiversity, investigating how the composition of these communities will respond to predicted land use change in the UK.

This involved combining existing data using the PREDICTS (Projecting Responses of Ecological Diversity In Changing Terrestrial System) framework, including extensive datasets from the Natural History Museum Soil Biodiversity Group.

Victoria also collected new data on soil invertebrate and microbial diversity in different land-use types in the New Forest, Hampshire, UK and on earthworms through a citizen science project - Earthworm Watch - developed in partnership with The Natural History Museum, London and The Earthwatch Institute, in association with the Earthworm Society of Britain.

Victoria's PhD was funded by NERC through Imperial College's Science and Solutions for a Changing Planet Doctoral Training Programme.
