SUMMARY:Natural History Museum Bioblitz 2011
LOCATION:The Natural History Museum, London, UK.
DESCRIPTION: The Natural History Museum is planning to Bioblitz its grounds, focussing on the wildlife garden but also including the east and west lawns and outdoor sections of the Sensational Butterflies exhibition.  The aim is to build up a list of species recorded in the garden, and also gather a reference collection of wildlife garden invertebrates for use by the public and visiting amateur-experts in the Angela Marmont Centre for UK Biodiversity. This, in combination with an indoor specimen roadshow and series of talks in the David Attenborough Studio, is all planned to kick off the UN's Decade on Biodiversity, bringing biodiversity issues to the public's attention in a fun and accessible way. The event will run from 6pm Saturday 21st to 6pm Sunday 22nd May, with the main public activities happening on Sunday from 11am. There will be a large marquee base camp in the courtyard area outside the Darwin Centre, and tables spread around the wildlife garden to form focus points for visitors. Throughout the day there will be a programme of guided and self-guided activities for museum visitors to get involved with.
