SUMMARY:Ladybirds Workshop
LOCATION:Chilcomb House, Chilcomb Lane, Winchester, SO23 8RD, UK.
DESCRIPTION: Ladybirds are amongst our most familiar and recognisable insects. However, few people realise that there are 46 different species belonging to the ladybird family of beetles, the Coccinellidae, living in Britain. Most species are important predators of aphids and are regarded as beneficial insects. However, one recent immigrant is causing concern since it not only feeds on aphids and scale insects but also other ladybirds. What distinguishes a 2-spot Ladybird from a 10-spot Ladybird, or a Heather Ladybird from a Kidney-spot Ladybird? Find out during this one-day workshop which provides an introduction to the Ladybirds of Hampshire and their identification. The day is suitable for anyone aged 18 and over and will include various talks and demonstrations by the leader. However, the emphasis for the day is very much on participants having a go themselves at identifying actual specimens using the microscopes and identification keys provided. Cost: £25.00 (to include tea/coffee; participants to provide their own packed lunch).
