SUMMARY:Tackling the Decline of Pollinating Insects in the UK
LOCATION:Grange Wellington Hotel, 71 Vincent Square, London, SW1P 2PA, UK.
DESCRIPTION: Bees and other pollinating insects face growing pressure from habitat loss, pests and diseases as well the intensification of agriculture over the last fifty years. In November 2014 the National Pollinator Strategy was released by the Government and outlined these issues, as well as others, that must be addressed in order to reverse the decline in population of pollinating insects.  In consideration that 300% global increase in volume of agricultural programme has been dependant on animal pollination over the last 50 years, it is necessary to protect pollinating insects in order to support farmers as agriculture becomes more intense. This symposium will positively address the growing issue of the decline in the number of bees. It will demonstrate how bee friendly communities can be promoted through sustainable development. It will also work towards supporting bees by empowering farmers to take the initiative to protect them from harmful pesticides. Whilst also tackling other key topics that will address the growing issue of declining bee numbers.
