SUMMARY:Insect Preservation Techniques #1 2014
LOCATION:Chilcomb House, Winchester, Hampshire, SO23 8RD, UK.
DESCRIPTION: While it is preferable to identify insects in the field before releasing them, many species need to be closely examined and keyed out in order to identify them. There are a number of ways of preserving insects so they can be identified, handled and stored safely. The most common technique is with pins or glue. This workshop will teach how to prepare, pin and glue specimens, explaining how to mount different insect orders and how to expose their relevant features for identification. The workshop is suitable for anyone aged 18 and over and will include various talks and demonstrations by the leaders. However, the emphasis for the session is very much on participants having a go at pinning for themselves. Starter kits of plastazote, card mounts, and a selection of pins will be available to purchase on the day. Cost: £10.00 Prior booking essential (numbers limited to 10).
