Auchenorrhyncha
Auchenorrhyncha is a suborder of the Hemiptera (true bugs). Historically the Auchenorrhyncha were part of the suborder Homoptera. However, recent studies on the genetic relationship between the groups within the Homoptera has shown that they are more distinct than previously thought. As a result, the Homopteran suborder has been abandoned and the insects that were within it now form three distinct suborders instead.
The Auchenorrhyncha include some familar insects such as cicadas and leaf hoppers.
