Insect suction sampler

A suction sampler is a powered device used by entomologist to collect insects. The suction sampler is similar to a vacuum cleaner (or "leaf blower" used in reverse) . Insects are sucked into the device and collected. Suction samplers can also be used in trees, where they have been shown to be superior to a beating tray in the number of species collected.
