Sternorrhyncha

Sternorrhyncha is a suborder of the Hemiptera (true bugs). Historically the Sternorrhyncha were part of the suborder Homoptera. However, recent studies on the genetic relationship between the groups within the Homoptera has shown that they are more distinct than previously thought. As a result, the Homopteran suborder has been abandoned and the insects that were within it now form three distinct suborders instead (making a total of four suborders within the Hemiptera).

The Sternorrhyncha include some familar insects such as aphids and scale insects.
