The Oxford University Museum of Natural History houses the University's scientific collections of zoological, entomological and geological specimens. The Museum itself is a Grade 1 listed building, renowned for its spectacular neo-Gothic architecture. Among its most famous features are the Oxfordshire dinosaurs, the dodo, and the swifts in the tower. In 2005, together with neighbouring Pitt Rivers, the Museum was the winner of the Guardian Family Friendly Museum Award.

The O. Orkin Insect Zoo is a special exhibit hall in the Museum where visitors can observe live insects and other arthropods. Volunteers conduct tarantula feeding demonstrations, work with live insects that visitors may touch and hold, and answer questions about the many-legged creatures that live in the Insect Zoo.
