Pestival 2009

04 September 2009 - 06 September 2009

Location: Southbank Centre, Belvedere Road, London, SE1 8XX, UK.

Event description

Celebrating insects in art, and the art of being an insect, Pestival is an international, community-led festival, suitable for all the family. Through insect-inspired comedy, music, ID walks, talks, experiments, fashion and architecture, Pestival examines how insects shape our world, and how humans shape the world of insects.

Join Southbank Centre for Bee Social, as Pestival transforms The Front Room at Queen 'Bee' Hall into a giant bee hive, with the live creation of a bee-inspired mural, talks, discussions and performances and interviews on the Larvae Stage. Get up close to the insects themselves at the Insect Zoo Show or inside BeeCab, a jobbing London taxi with a beehive sealed inside, and take part in a number of children's workshops featuring maggots, butterflies and beetles. Slow Food London will also be attending, celebrating the harvest and the pollinators who make it happen with some of the best producers of food and drink around.

Many of the events are free, and almost all are family-friendly, so swarm on the entire Southbank Centre site, 4 - 6 September, and put insects on the cultural map - before it's too late.

Our president, Dr Robin Wootton, will be presenting a talk in the Bio-Design session
