Cath Hodsman exhibition in The Blue Door Art Gallery, Nailsworth

03 May 2011 - 14 May 2011

Location: The Blue Door Art Gallery, George Street, Nailsworth, UK.

Event description

AES member Cath Hodsman is a wildlife artist, and particularly enjoys painting insects.

Cath writes: "I find myself becoming more influenced by entomologists like John Curtis, the great Victorian pioneer of both botany and entomology. I have been completely transfixed by the paintings in Curtis's books, as well as his pioneering approach to both botany and entomology. It's been a complete inspiration to me. I think I am a frustrated Victorian at heart. His influence is definitely coming out in my paintings. What I have been trying to do is to produce entomological studies in watercolours without the need to kill the subjects. These days, when each individual creature is becoming more and more precious, I want to help the world to experience the beauty of insects and plants without the  ecessity to kill, thereby promoting preservation and conservation of our indigenous species."

Cath is exhibiting her work locally in Gloucestershire during 2010.
