AES & Bug Club: Young Entomologists' Day at Oxford University 2012

11 February 2012

Location: Oxford University Museum of Natural History, Parks Road, Oxford, Oxon, OX1 3PW, UK.

Event description

The Amateur Entomologists' Society and the Bug Club in collaboration with the Oxford University Museum of Natural History are inviting young entomologists to join us in a day of insect talks and activities. You will have an opportunity to give a talk, visit the insect collections and meet with other young entomologists at Oxford University's famous Museum of Natural History.

Children (any age below 18) are invited to give a short talk on an insect related topic. The talks will be judged by a panel of experts, and prizes will be awarded for the best presentations, taking into account the age of the presenter.

In addition to behind-the-scenes tours of the Hope Entomological Collections, there will be insect related activities, including opportunities to cuddle a cockroach and tickle a tarantula. For further information and a booking form please contact the secretary of the Amateur Entomologists' Society in the first instance.

Drawing competition:

In addition to the talks and other activities there will be a drawing workshop, to include drawing through the microscope. This will be run by biologist and wildlife artist Clare Newman.

We also invite children to bring their insect drawings with them on the day. The drawings will be judged by Clare and by British wildlife artist Cath Hodsman, and prizes (signed limited edition prints by Cath) will be awarded for the best drawings!
