Rosliston Bioblitz 2014
19 July 2014 10:00 - 17:00
Location: Rosliston Forestry Centre, Burton Rd, Rosliston, Swadlincote, Derbyshire, DE12 8JX, UK.
Nature lovers have a chance to discover wildlife or just relax and enjoy guided walks and picnics in 62 hectares of open space at a free 'Bioblitz' Open Day being arranged at Rosliston Forestry Centre on Saturday, July 19.
Everyone is invited to attend the event, whether they are families looking to spend a day out in the countryside or wildlife enthusiasts and specialists keen to discover some new species hidden in the grasslands and hedgerows of this beautiful setting.
The Rosliston Bioblitz will run from 10am to midnight, with the last admission at 9pm. Visitors can pick a time to suit themselves or stay all day.
Organisers, the Amateur Entomologists' Society and the Royal Entomological Society, assisted by the Environmental Education Project - which is part of South Derbyshire District Council, want enthusiasts to help them create a comprehensive list of invertebrates on the site.
A Bioblitz involves a group of people, including scientists, amateur naturalists, students and the public, coming together to survey as much wildlife as they can at a specified location, over a set time period.
The site contains a variety of habitats including open ground, such as rough grassland, open water with ponds and a lake, hedgerows, rides and footpaths, woodland edges, streams, conifer plantations, young trees and mature woodland.
This event was organised by the AES.
