Avon Wildlife Trust: Introduction to Lichens
10 June 2017 09:30 - 11 June 2017 16:30
Location: 158 Frenchay Park Rd, Bristol BS16 1HB, UK.
The course will start with a look at lichen biology, diversity and ecology, and will then look at how we name them, and gain practical skills in recognising the key features for identification, using specimens provided. Once we are familiar with the lichen lingo, we will venture out into the field, and identify species in communities, and learn how to collect specimens for indoor examination. During indoor sessions we will use microscopy, chemical tests, observations and literature to develop skills in handling and identification.
No previous skill in identifying lichens is necessary. You will require a note book to record your observations and lichen names, and some A4 paper to make your own packets for specimens.
