Christmas Lepidoptera quiz
Published: 13 December 2010
Graham Wenman has posted a Christmas Lepidoptera quiz on the UK Moths discussion group. The quiz is devised to help raise money for Moths Count. You do not have to contribute to the scheme but it would be much appreciated if you donated at least £1 to Moths Count to participate in the quiz.
Quiz information
- There are 100 questions/clues.
- Every answer can be found in a Bradley and Fletcher 2000 list.
- Answers can be a Genus, a Species or a vernacular name.
- Where the answer is more than one word, this is stated at the end of the clue. Where a word is hyphenated (e.g. Yellow-tail) this is also stated.
- Clues are mostly based on word-plays or anagrams. The word play is deliberately there to confuse you.
- As all answers are Lepidoptera, there are no definitions in the clues.
- In clues which are anagrams, there is always a word which indicates this - e.g mixed/scrambled, etc.
- In every group of 5 clues (e.g. 1-5, 6-10) there is always 1 butterfly, 1 micro moth and 1 macro moth.
- Prizes are available, including a subscription to the Entomologist's Record donated by the AES.
How to enter
- Copy and paste the list of clues in to an email.
- Add your answer following the clue.
- Send your completed answer sheet to: gjwenman@yahoo.co.uk
- Remember to put your name on your answers and please indicate if you have made a donation to Moths Count.
- Closing date 15 JANUARY 2011
