The moth collection of Eric Classey (1916-2008) will be auctioned at Gorringes in Lewes on 29th June, the collection includes a rare example of the Burren Green Moth (Calamia tridens). The exhibit was the high point of Classey's distinguished career and a few months after making this presentation he was elected President of the BENHS. Eric Classey was also president of the AES between 1983 and 1984.

The collection comprises some 6,132 specimens of which there are 397 species contained within three mahogany pillar chests of twenty drawers with oak detachable locking bars by Watkins and Doncaster, fitted to sit together as one. Almost all examples retain their labels listing the name of the original collector, date and location of specimen, the dates on the labels vary from 1899 top 1959. Classey originally compiled this collection in conjunction with H.S. Robinson for the South London Entomological and Natural History Society exhibition in 1950 (exhibit 60).
