Updates to our Privacy Policy

Published: 24 May 2018

As you're no doubt aware, the General Data Protection Regulation comes into effect tomorrow (25th May 2018). We'd like to draw your attention to our updated Privacy Policy and, in particular, the types of data we process, under what basis and your rights.

Many organisations will have been asking you to reconfirm that you want to receive email messages from them. The AES does not send any marketing emails to people and our email newsletter is only sent to members of the society. As members subscribe themselves to the mailing list (we don't add anyone directly) using double opt-in consent and we record the date and time that consent was received our records are in order and we do not need to obtain consent again. We have reminded subscribers about how to check their settings in the latest newsletter.

Members of the society have paid for their membership and we process your data, to send you your journals for example, as part of that contract. A summary of the processing we do, your rights, data retention periods etc will be included with your next mailing and can also be downloaded [PDF 69K].

If you have any questions related to this please don't hesitate to contact the society.
