Appeal to save Saltbox Hill
From Wild London, Summer 1999
Saltbox Hill near Biggin Hill in Bromley is currently privately owned and has been left unmanaged for a number of years. It is in danger of being lost through neglect; the once open downland is being swamped by scrub. The London Wildlife Trust believes that permanently safeguarding the site is the only option and is currently attempting to raise £25,000 for its purchase. The site is one of the last remaining fragments of chalk downland which is rich in wildflowers and where orchids and butterflies thrive.
