Trust Britain's Ponds
From Habitat Volume 35, No 4, April 1999.
The Ponds Conservation Trust, a consortium of 22 organisations, has been launched to manage the Heritage Ponds Project, an initiative aiming to restore over 2000 of Britain's vanishing ponds in the next four years. Building on the successful completion of an 18 month pilot project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, the Ponds Conservation Trust will manage the ponds project which has so far enabled local communities to restore nine ponds across Britain to a high ecological and historical standard. The project aims to provide grants and technical support to community groups to restore local ponds, inform people about the value of ponds for wildlife and for local heritage, and to promote sustainable long term management to make the most of pond wildlife and history.
