Inch-worm

Incomplete metamorphosis
a type of metamorphosis in which an insect hatches from an egg and then goes through several similar nymphal stages before reaching adulthood.

Indigenous
an organism that is naturally occurring in a specific area.

Indirect flight muscles
indirect flight muscles do not attach directly to the wing of an insect. Flapping is accomplished by deforming the shape of the thorax.

Industrial melanism
an increase in the number of darker animals in the environment as a result of soot and other pollutants on surfaces making it easier for predators to find lighter coloured individuals.

Insect Light Trap
cf. Moth trap - a device used to attract and capture moths which can then be studied.
Insect net
cf. Butterfly net - a common piece of equipment used by an entomologist. It is used to catch flying insects.

a device similar to a vacuum cleaner, used for sampling insects in undergrowth.
